Mwatuka was born in Dar es Salaam on 24th September 1984. her father was the well known painter Salum Mussa, sometimes known as Mzee Lumumba. He was a very strong leader of Tingatinga and he has helped many painters. Therefore Mwatuka is a very important member of Tingatinga Cooperative. She has sister Sharifa and brother Mbuka who are also paintings at the Cooperative. Mwatuka was taugh by Mbuka in 2000 but she has mastered painting even before since the proximity to her father. She wish the Cooperative to increase number of women painters. She has a lot of ideas: Text design, Tingatinga Kanga, sheets, cups, dress for children, spoons, tiles etc. All this can be designed by women painters, she says.
